“…that HE may abide with you forever- the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be with you.” – John 14:17
A lovely 33 year old Jane is driving down Santa Monica Blvd during rush hour traffic bumpin her new worship CD. Sunroof and windows rolled down, cruisin on a SoCal strip, she stops at a light when a white BMW 3-series pulls up at the stop next to her- on the right. A good-looking thirty-something white-collar guy glances over at her & adjusts his wire frame ray-bans with a smile. The light turns green & bashful Jane pulls up to the next light, and her admirer again pulls up next to her, this time with his window rolling down. They both pause for the last moments at the stop light, when Jane realizes “white BMW Guy” suddenly seems uninterested & makes an abrupt right turn. Aww... that was fun for the moment, but she realized the track had been playing- Fires Burn, by Delirious.
This personal story reminds me of a quote from a movie I saw, “Tell me who you love, and I will tell you who you are.” Who do you love?
What does a “White BMW Guy” see when a lovely woman is enjoying the day cruisin down the boulevard singing praises to the ONE she loves?
He must have seen a woman with dignity and high morals whom he did not want to pursue. We live where instant gratification is the norm, in which many do not have to work hard for anything...not even relationships. Thus, the high percentage of divorce. The "beamer guy" must have things come easy for him and when he realized that she's a Christian, it did not fit his lifestyle. "Do as thou wilt" is the mantra. My humble opinion, of course. His loss.
ReplyDeleteGreat point Logie. Everything we consume is "instant." We're the Instant Gratification Nation! Nowadays, a full-menu of women is available for "Beamer Guys" to select from at the flick of a finger. Clearly, "Christian" was not on his dropdown menu, next to a plethora of "beamer style" girls. Amazing how for thousands of years, Christ has the same affect; HE either draws people closer to HIM or sends them running with arms flailing in the air.
